Re: Thoughts on Maurice Casey's new book

Oh, nice start to Casey's book (received via Kindle for PC this morning).......It seems, according to Casey, that in the internet "both groups consists largely of people with closed minds who are impervious to evidence and argument,..." (groups being the christian apologists and atheists)....

Re: Steven DiMattei: Case Against Mythicists

Has anyone seen this? http://stevendimattei.com/case-mythists/ Views? Note: elsewhere, DiMattei rejects the TF and holds that the "Christ" is indeed a literary creation. 5) If Jesus Christ of the gospels was a literary invention (which he was even from my admission above; so let’s say a l...

Re: Thoughts on Maurice Casey's new book

Thanks, Andrew, will phone my local Waterstones to see if they have it in store. I'll wait until it gets to Poundland. Haha, Steven. Don't like the idea of paying top price either - but the book could do with some 'negative' amazon reviews...... Local Waterstones don't have the book in stock and an...

Re: Herod the king in the Gospel of Mark

<snip. And, as this Thread attempts to demonstrate, Aretas was not actually the King of Damascus just as Herod was not actually the King of Galilee. So is fake history repeating itself? Joe, 'fake history' is getting near but not quite there.....The gospel story is 'fake', i.e. it is not history - ...

Re: Was Aretas King of Damascus @ 2 Corinthians 11:32?

As Herod Antipas wasn't called Antipas but was just Herod, can we know that the writer of Mark knew that there had to be a Herod Antipas at play in this story? Maybe not, but the lack of certain knowledge is not very interesting. Calling him king makes it interesting. The timeframe of Herod Antipas...

Re: evidence of an earthly human Jesus in the Pauline epistl

<snip> The conclusion, then, is that knowing something no longer "according to the flesh" means that the initiate has progressed to divine knowledge and has shed the preconceptions that he had before entering into this mystery, namely the assumptions of his Greek or Jewish background, res...

Re: Ethnarch of King Aretas? the legendary Damascus basket c

It is an incredibly interesting discussion. I kept telling the other thread keep certain people out and there's more room for the conversation to grow. Thanks Pete. Even if you did cut my Meatballs reference Yep, an interesting topic - but the major participants don't seem to have moved further fro...

Re: Ethnarch of King Aretas? the legendary Damascus basket c

<snip> As a consequence, I would not be surprised to find a large Nabatean population in a Roman controlled Damascus, even in the 30's-50's CE. Why does an ethnarch over these residents with limited authority scare folks so much? I think that many of those sounding out loudest about this are as age...
