Re: Yahwist’s Parallel Formation Techniques

I didn't notice any references to the Hebrew phrase I mentioned. In his Anchor Bible commentary (ad loc.), Baruch Levine points out the similarity between the Hebrew word tzitzit and the Akkadian word for ornament (ṣiṣṣātu). Further on it goes into a discussion of women wearing Tzitzit (or not). The...

Re: Yahwist’s Parallel Formation Techniques

I'll look for the article. Clearly, some examples you give are better than some others. Joseph and Potiphar's wife vs Judah and Tamar is a relatively good example, The Noah and Solomon connection etc. seems pretty obscure. Picking up girls at the local well is an example of something obvious, import...

Re: Yahwist’s Parallel Formation Techniques

I'm not in any danger of either studying too much or understanding the bible anytime soon. The most striking part of the Joseph story is his femininity, at least through his service to Potiphar. For example - Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his children, because he was the son of his old age; ...

Re: Yahwist’s Parallel Formation Techniques

Since none of these people have ant historicity as ever existing, what is your point here? Personally, I like to search for identical phrases such as: ‎וַיְהִ֗י אַחַר֙ הַדְּבָרִ֣ים הָאֵ֔לֶּה And it came to pass after these things This phrase appears 5 times in the Tanakh. And it came to pass after ...

Re: How the Story of Jacob was Created

Probably Joseph will be chapter 5 here, but there is an interesting parallel with Rachel stealing the Teraphim and Joseph framing Benjamin in Egypt with the wine cup he used for divination (Genesis 44). It is the very one from which my master drinks and which he uses for divination. It was a wicked ...

Re: Was there a Jewish temple in ancient Egypt?

I don't think there was a Jewish temple in Alexandria. Only a grand synagogue. That makes sense and may help explain the elusive oddity of this thread. The Alexandria Basilica Synagogue Destroyed by Hadrian 280 BC - 117 AD http://www.bible.ca/synagogues/Alexandria-Great-Basilica-Colonnaded-Egypt-an...

Re: "baramin" - bad grammar in Hebrew

Always nice to look at the one part of the bible everyone knows. ‎בְּרֵאשִׁ֖ית בָּרָ֣א אֱלֹהִ֑ים אֵ֥ת הַשָּׁמַ֖יִם וְאֵ֥ת הָאָֽרֶץ ׃ (Gen. 1:1 WTT) When God began to create heaven and earth (Gen. 1:1 TNK) IN THE beginning God created the heaven and the earth. Re: 2600-year-old seal

Rollston makes an interesting point about mlk meaning God as opposed to king.

He also mentions names like Nathanyahu - YHWH has given.

Could be just two different families who had slightly different, but innocent, names for the big guy

Or MLK could be Moloch

Re: Was there a Jewish temple in ancient Egypt?

There were two, actually. The one on Elephantine Island, which dates to Persian times, and a second "anti-temple" in Heliopolis, Egypt, built by the son of the HP Onias, probably not too long after 164 BCE. That article you linked to seems to have a weird agenda to it. DCH I noticed that ...
