Re: Radical Criticism/Paul Mythicism and its Problems
What I want to discuss is that this theory doesn't seem to me to account for certain texts or part of texts at all, even if you do grant the forgeries and dating Why do you want to discuss it here? If you are genuinely interested in this subject I bet you’ll find better answers over at the Jesus My...

Re: Radical Criticism/Paul Mythicism and its Problems
While Mark might have poor knowledge of Palestinian geography and not much regard for the nitpicky interpretations of ceremonial law, his work is completely shot through with Judaism and the Old Testament, far beyond the ham-fisted, ridiculous Old Testament co-option of Matthew, the Epistle to Barn...

Re: Did Canaanites sacrifice children?
Has anyone mentioned Isaiah 30:29-33? Such shall be your song, as on a night a feast is celebrated with gladness of heart, as when one marches in procession with the flute, to enter the mountain of Yahweh, to the Rock of Israel. Yahweh has made heard the crash of His voice, the down-sweep of His arm...

Re: Did Canaanites sacrifice children?
Scholars debate the question, whether inhabitants of Canaan in the pre-exilic period - possibly including worshipers of Yahweh - literally sacrificed children to gods. There are scriptural references to this practice, but some authorities say that it did not actually occur. Does anyone have informa...

Re: Thoughts on Maurice Casey's new book
Consider Hebrews 7:2: ”… and Abraham gave him a tenth of everything.” Abraham didn’t give Melchizedek a tenth of anything. It is Melchizedek who gave the tenth. Why? The majority of Gn 14:20 translations say exactly "Abram gave him a tenth of everything." Put aside the Septuagint text, it...

Re: Thoughts on Maurice Casey's new book
The author of Hebrews made a distinction between Jesus and the LORD; whereas ‘Paul’ pretended that Jesus was the LORD. The epistle of Barnabas is odd in that regard. It starts out using Lord to refer to God. Then halfway through, it starts calling Jesus Lord. I've been wondering how it fits into th...

And we’re not even sure that melchi-zedek was a name.stephan happy huller wrote: Why isn't it made explicit that Jesus was Melchizedek redivivus - i.e. it should say Jesus is another name for Melchizedek.

Re: Thoughts on Maurice Casey's new book
Why isn't it made explicit that Jesus was Melchizedek redivivus - i.e. it should say Jesus is another name for Melchizedek. Intentionally ambiguous to appeal to a wider audience. :confusedsmiley: Like the Simon from Cyrene thing: Did Jesus really die on the cross? Or was it Simon? If you leave it t...

Re: Thoughts on Maurice Casey's new book
The whole notion put forward by Doherty et al that Hebrews is an early text is unlikely. The Marcionites didn't use it. I agree. But if it was pretending to be Pauline it did a pretty bad job. It looks to me like the “Jesus” in Hebrews is based around “Jesus the High Priest” from Zechariah 3:1 LXX....

I don't think this works this Frankenstein of yours. I think the reason you offering up a Frankenstein model is only because you secretly know there isn't enough evidence to support your hypotheses. You have this myth and this word and that phrase and none of it really comes together so you have to...
