Giuseppe also wrote: are you asking me to wrote an entire book as K has done recently? Where does Klinghardt make the argument for the priority of th...

Re: The Gentile readers of Canonical Luke were not obliged to know where Capernaum was

We only need to think the author of Luke knew that and intended it as a back reference to Luke 4.14-15. you are placing emphasis on the knowledge of background by the author , but I am pointing out the complete ignorance of the gentile readers . The latter could have read a different name from Cape...

Re: The Gentile readers of Canonical Luke were not obliged to know where Capernaum was

What's the rest of the argument? are you asking me to wrote an entire book as K has done recently? Or are you asking me the resume of another book of my knowledge arguing a similar thesis? This is a forum and I mean to post something as my interest goes. In this specific case, I think to have detec...

Re: The Gentile readers of Canonical Luke were not obliged to know where Capernaum was

Giuseppe: Could you present a sound argument for the conclusion that *Ev precedes Luke? I mean an argument in which true premises are carried through a series of truth-preserving logical deductions to a true conclusion. You seem to have one two premises so far: 1) Luke's gospel was directed primaril...

The Damascus or Zadokite Work was written before the time of Jesus. Right. Let me rephrase the question: Misdating Jesus to Jannaeus' era may be due to a confusion of Jesus with the Qumran Teacher of Righteousness... Could you identify who has misdated Jesus to the era of Jannaeus, and cite where h...

I suggest this may additionally be relevant to the misdating of Jesus to the time of Jannaeus. The question I'm really interested in is: what passages from The Talmud (or Toledot) that have been taken to refer to Jesus (the Christian Jesus) might be plausibly explained as (originally?) referring to...

Re: A Consistent Editorial Tendency In Marcion's Use of Luke?

If the source of information about Marcion is polemical how do we know that any information that comes from a polemic isn't hopelessly compromised. By analogy, does Mein Kampf tell us anything salvageable about Jews at the turn of the 20th century. Our Christian sources on Marcion are all to some d...

Re: A Consistent Editorial Tendency In Marcion's Use of Luke?

It is still possible to contend that *Ev used Luke in addition to Mark or Matthew. But " the theory that Marcion created the Evangelion by making ideologically motivated subtractions from Luke " may be untenable. Peter, If I am following you so far, your argument is: (1) 'Who is my mother...

Qumran texts tell of a conflict between the Wicked Priest and the Teacher of Righteousness, and also mention that Absalom did not help the Teacher when he was aggrieved. I think the Wicked Priest was Alexander Jannaeus. (Strabo, Geography 16.2.34-46, while favorable toward Moses and followers, also...

I'm familiar with the passage from Epiphanius Panarion II 29 3.3 that some have understood as placing Jesus in Alexander Jannaeus time (103-76 BCE): 3,3 For the rulers in succession from Judah came to an end with Christ’s arrival. Until he came < the > rulers < were anointed priests >,9 but after hi...
