Re: Marcion's Gospel

But why even mention that at all? Mentioning Paul sure, given the tradition of Markion and Paul, but why even bring up gMark unless their was a connection in the tradition? I made a suggestion of a possible explanation here Basically Hippolytus is arguing: i/ The Gospel tradition which Hippolytus, ...

Re: Can Anyone Tell Me More About this Homily?

Discussion here (In French) May be influenced by Amphilochius of Iconium (late 4th century), and Gregory of Nazianzus (late 4th century) Possible allusion to the Nicene creed. Re: Early to mid 2nd c. works on Christianity missing from our forum's website

Thanks. That is my guess too. I don't know how you would prove that it is post-Eusebian, though. Some of the best evidence for me is that it isn't mentioned before what, the 10th century? The martyrdom explicitly dates the death of Ignatius around the middle of the reign of Trajan agreeing with Eus...

Re: Early to mid 2nd c. works on Christianity missing from our forum's website

When would you date the "Martyrdom of Ignatius"? I have seen dates ranging from the 2nd century AD to centuries later. The earliest manuscript that we have is from the 10th century, and the early writers don't clearly mention it, so it seems like a late document. Wikipedia refers to this text: Alth...

Clement quotes the verses about sexual behaviour in the Instructor book 2 Impios “autem tradidit Deus,” ut air Apostolus, “in perturbationes ignominiæ: nam et feminæeorum mutaverunt naturalem usum in eum, qui est procter naturam: similiter autem et masculi eorum, relicto usu naturali, exarserunt in ...

Re: The authorship of the apocalypse of John.

I think we can safely rule out the possibility that the author thinks the time of prophecy is past: Daniel 12.4: 4 “But as for you, Daniel, conceal these words and seal up the book until the time of the end; many will go back and forth, and knowledge will increase.” Revelation 22.10: 10 And he says...

Here is a somewhat comprehensive list of Jewish and Christian apocalypses gleaned from M. R. James, The Apocryphal New Testament ; J. K. Elliott, The Apocryphal New Testament: A Collection of Apocryphal Christian Literature in an English Translation ; and R. H. Charles, Apocrypha and Pseudepigrapha...
