Re: Matthew 2:23

The atheists/mythicists have long maintain that the town of Nazerite is a myth. Therefore Jesus is a myth. However, common sense and history does not support the atheists and myth makers. It is said that although Nazareth was a small town, it was well known by travelers in the region for it was loca...

Re: Previously Unknown Subspecies of Human Discovered in Siberia

Mom was a Neanderthal. " BERLIN (AP) — Scientists say they've found the remains of a prehistoric female whose mother was a Neanderthal and whose father belonged to another extinct group of human relatives known as Denisovans....Paabo said he was surprised by the discovery, given how relatively few ...

...[is] there any evidence for Christianity being anything but an ascetic religion or at least a structure developed to support monasticism?..I am confident no one will come up with anything but would love to be proved wrong. Secret Alias would love to be proven wrong? I gave several differe...

Re: What Alternatives Are There to Christianity Being an Ascetic Religion?

It's not a matter of debate when you delve into the minutia. Severus of Al-Ashumein's Coptic Church history confirms that only one bishop - Demetrius, who also happens to be an outsider was married and he confesses that he and his wife never have sex. He even makes her walk into fire in order to pr...

Re: What Alternatives Are There to Christianity Being an Ascetic Religion?

I don't see any evidence that Christian hierarchy was originally designed as ascetic/celibate lifestyle. I can't think of an example before Demetrius in Severus of Al-Ashumein's Coptic Church history of a married bishop. And Demetrius seems to have been the exception....The point here is that celib...

Re: What Alternatives Are There to Christianity Being an Ascetic Religion?

My own view is that Christianity is a derivative of the Antinous cult But again, does any of this change the fact there is no evidence to contradict the basic assumption that 'Christianity' as such had a group of leaders who were supported by or lived off a superstitious majority who did not marry ...

Re: What Alternatives Are There to Christianity Being an Ascetic Religion?

Forget about 'greed' for a moment. Let's suppose that there is no right or wrong with regards to making money. If we take the totality of written documents from the early Church and again not distinguishing between 'deutero-' and authentic texts it becomes clear that there was an ecclesiastical hie...

Re: What Alternatives Are There to Christianity Being an Ascetic Religion?

I'm still not sure if I understand your point. If your point was that Christianity was founded on greed, then I have to disagree. I see the Jesus movement as a way to feed the poor who suffered under the cost of financing the Temple system and the Herodian government. The cost of a sin offering coul...

Re: What Alternatives Are There to Christianity Being an Ascetic Religion?

I know we have many imaginative people here who think Christianity could be about all sorts of things. But is there any evidence for Christianity being anything but an ascetic religion or at least a structure developed to support monasticism? If so what sort of models are there from actual historic...
