Re: “Did Jesus Exist?” On the New Testament Review
First, do "the brethren" in 3 John fit into this category for you of "brothers" who are on church business? 3 John [1.]1-15: 1 The elder to the beloved Gaius, whom I love in truth. 2 Beloved, I pray that in all respects you may prosper and be in good health, just as your soul prospers. 3 For I was ...

Re: “Did Jesus Exist?” On the New Testament Review
I don't agree with them on Gal. 1.19. I think there is a reasonably good argument to be made for the brothers of the Lord being a group of Christian leaders distinct from the apostles, but who are not Jesus' siblings. Also, I don't think the understanding that it means “male siblings of Jesus” is a...

Re: “Did Jesus Exist?” On the New Testament Review
I agree on Galatians 4.4. I think when Paul says Jesus was “born of a woman” in all probability he means Jesus existed as a human being on earth as human beings tend to. I have a little niggle with the expression 'born of a woman' - somehow it just seems demeaning to woman. Who would go around sayi...

Re: “Did Jesus Exist?” On the New Testament Review
Ian and Laura are friends, but that doesn't mean I agree with them on everything, though we agree on quite a bit. (Ian and I are in pretty solid agreement on source critical issues. And, of course, there are lots of things the two of them disagree on, but their disagreements are not the point of the...

“Did Jesus Exist?” On the New Testament Review
Ian Mills and Laura Robinson, doctoral students in New Testament at Duke University, address the question “Did Jesus Exist?” in the New Testament Review, now on YouTube. (Spoiler: They think he did).

Re: Are there any survivors in the apocalypse of John?
Ben,
NRSV. Right, it’s ἄνθρωπος, so if you know of ἄνθρωπος being used for immortals, this wouldn’t be decisive. Who would these people be then? Previously dead people who have already been resurrected?
Best,
Ken

Re: Are there any survivors in the apocalypse of John?
Very interesting question Ben. What do you make if Rev. 21.3-4: 3 “See, the home of God is among mortals. He will dwell with them; they will be his peoples, and God himself will be with them; 4 he will wipe every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; mourning and crying and pain will be no mo...

Re: Lee Strobel "The Case for Christ" on New Testament Review podcast
Lee Strobel has now responded to the ‘blatantly unfair and grossly deceptive attack’ Ian Mills and Laura Robinson made against his book, The Case for Christ, on the New Testament Review podcast back in April. https://leestrobel.com/reply?fbclid=IwAR2PjN69Mbu7cZn1rSXMjdq_wDnCaAxKKwjp_fErSiihhtWn0aDnm...

Re: Pharisees outside Judea?
Thanks Stephen. Yes, I do accept the identification of the Pharisees with Ephraim and the seekers after smooth things in the Qumran corpus. I also accept the theory of Essene influence on Christianity. (Parenthetically, though, I don’t really like the word influence, as though there was a distinct C...
