Re: The Pauline Gospel was a Late Invention

Origen's Jesus existed mythically. Origen believed Jesus existed as the son of a Ghost!! Origen believed the Holy Ghost existed. At the very same time Origen believed the Holy Ghost existed the Romans believed Romulus existed. Romulus was the myth founder of Rome and Jesus was the mythological son ...

Re: The Pauline Gospel was a Late Invention

I was referring to Origen supporting the mythicist claim that "the Pauline gospel was a late invention." I'm still confused. I don't think Origen is in a position to support anything; he is dead, yes? So, you say Origen's writings do or don't support the claim that the Pauline gospel was a late inv...

Re: The Pauline Gospel was a Late Invention

Origen does not support any mythicist claims in any way, shape or form... Your statement is wholly in error. Origen's Jesus was a myth--the son of god born of a Ghost and a Virgin. Origen didn't believe that Jesus existed? When Celsus argued for an historical Jesus Origen claimed Celsus was a Liar ...

Re: The Pauline Gospel was a Late Invention

Origen does not support any mythicist claims in any way, shape or form. " ... mythicist claims .." about what, specifically? My reason for referring to & citing Origen is more to determine aspects of how the NT might have been developed. I was referring to Origen supporting the mythicist claim that...

Re: The Pauline Gospel was a Late Invention

Origen does not support any mythicist claims in any way, shape or form. Consider the following quotes from Origen citing that Celsus's allegeded knowledge of John the Baptist. CHAP. XLVII. I would like to say to Celsus, who represents the Jew as accepting somehow John as a Baptist, who baptized Jesu...

Re: Was Peregrinus really a replicant ?

Philip K Dick documented in Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep of a replicant who had many parallels to Peregrinus's life. For example, this replicant wandered from place to place all throughout it's life. Eventually this wandering replicant is able to make it to earth where he meets his father- an...

Re: Was Peregrinus really a Christian ?

Are the parallels based on Pionius, Life of Polycarp by any chance? If so, it may be worthwhile to read the following preface. No. The core ones are the desire to die in fire, a bird coming out of the fire, the association with the posthumous production of letters of Ignatius So according to the “P...

Re: Was Peregrinus really a Christian ?

Interesting theory but the parallels with Polycarp are just too strong to doubt the identification. . Are the parallels based on Pionius, Life of Polycarp by any chance? If so, it may be worthwhile to read the following preface. . The text is entirely fictional and tells us nothing about Polycarp. ...
