Re: *Ev precedes Mark because Mark knew the Apostolikon

Take for example the stilling of the storm. From BeDuhn's *Ev: Why don't you use Klinghardt's *Ev? If we acknowledge that the stilling of the storm is a scene based on Psalm 107 then we have several issues to contend with. Firstly, the scene in Mark is closer to Psalm 107 than the scene in Luke/*Ev...

Re: Does ransom theory indicate Jesus was heavenly?

Marcion is thought to having insight into Paul, either as creator or earliest recogniser of Paul's letters, then Paul's use of "archontes" arguably refers to humans. as creator of pauline epistles you are right, but in the hypothesis of Marcion "earliest recognizer of Paul's letters&...

Re: Does ransom theory indicate Jesus was heavenly?

Wells confutes your "if and only if" on Paul: Perhaps Doherty's strongest point is Paul's assertion (1 Cor.2:8) that Jesus was crucified by supernatural forces (the archontes ). I take this to mean that they prompted the action of human agents: but I must admit that the text ascribes the ...

Re: Mark knew Paul the Persecutor therefore *Ev precedes Mark

The Gerasene demonic would be Paul and is found in both Mark and *Ev. How could he be there if Paul the Persecutor was a Catholic interpolation?

The only possible explanation is that the Gerasene demonic was associated with Paul only after that Paul the Persecutor was interpolated in Galatians 1.

Re: Mark knew Paul the Persecutor therefore *Ev precedes Mark

Find the only difference: Mark 9:38-41 38 “Teacher,” said John, “we saw someone driving out demons in your name and we told him to stop, because he was not one of us.” 39 “Do not stop him,” Jesus said. “For no one who does a miracle in my name can in the next moment say anything bad about me, 40 for...

Re: Mark knew Paul the Persecutor therefore *Ev precedes Mark

In *Ev, Jesus is defamed as "son of the carpenter" and persecuted bluntly by the people of Nazara, despite of the hearsay about what Jesus did in Capernaum. Mark preserves the defamation of Jesus in Nazareth but he removed the active persecution of Jesus by the people of Nazareth, and subt...

Re: Does ransom theory indicate Jesus was heavenly?

On the analogy of the Ascension of Isaiah, the appearance of the form of a man would provide a lack of awareness if and only if that was the predominant form among those Jesus was among. An angel moving among angels, a man moving among men. This points towards a setting not only where a descent hap...

Re: Mark knew Paul the Persecutor therefore *Ev precedes Mark

Evidence that Mark knew Paul the Persecutor:

Mark 1:9 is based on Galatians 1:14.

Mark 1:36-37 is based on Galatians 1:23.

Mark knew Paul the Persecutor therefore *Ev precedes Mark

What about this argument?
  • FACT: In the marcionite Galatians there was none trace of Paul the Persecutor. The latter was a Catholic addition.
  • FACT: Mark betrayes knowledge of Paul the Persecutor. *Ev doesn't.
  • CONCLUSION: Therefore: *Ev precedes Mark.

Re: Does ransom theory indicate Jesus was heavenly?

One frequently co-occuring component of the ransom myth is that the Son of God was killed without awareness of his true identity, which does fit quite nicely into the idea of appearing as a man among men. wrong. In the Ascension of Isaiah the passwords given through the lower heavens are designed t...
