Re: *Ev precedes Mark because Mark knew the Apostolikon

My case is even stronger than I imagined when I wrote the OP, since only few minutes after I read this : Based on the types of issues addressed and the earliest known evidence of a collection, Livesey dates the letters' emergence to the mid-second century and the Roman school of Marcion. (my bold) H...

Re: *Ev precedes Mark because Mark knew the Apostolikon

In the case the last counter-objection is not fully understood by the reader: it is 100% expected that the presentation of Paul (I mean 'presentation' in the sense of 'launch') had been made in the manner Marcion did it: as a amazing novelty . And as such remembered even by the his opponents. It is ...

*Ev precedes Mark because Mark knew the Apostolikon

The proof is the following: FACT: Mark knew the pauline epistles FACT: before Marcion, none knew the epistles of Paul (apart the teacher of Marcion: Cerdon). FACT: Marcion made the epistles known in the same moment he made *Ev known. CONCLUSION: therefore Mark could know the epistles only after the ...

Re: The refusal of a sign as a Judaizing passage found in *Ev

Matthew is a proto-Tertullian in his reaction against Marcion. For example, the first two Temptations in Matthew are opposing the marcionite implication of the title of 'Son of God' (the implication being that the Son is God himself and as such he could do a lot of miracles ) by quoting the Jewish s...

Re: The refusal of a sign as a Judaizing passage found in *Ev

My point behind the analogy is more subtle: a *Ev used but interpreted by Marcion is just as well dangerous in its effects as a *Ev written directly by Marcion.

Which is the reason why Klinghardt and Vinzent corroborate reciprocally their points.

Re: The refusal of a sign as a Judaizing passage found in *Ev

This is the problem with the gospels. Even *Ev is a receptacle of different theologies, therefore Marcion was not so free from partial compromises with the ideology of the his own opponents. Well, assuming that he wrote the Evangelion. Alternately, he just received a text, like virtually everybody ...

Sour Milk Sea wrote: Mon May 13, 2024 6:00 pmWhat's the reason to replace rabbi with kyrioi?
Wikipedia gives the reason:

The root is cognate to Arabic ربّ rabb, meaning "lord" (generally used when talking about God, but also about temporal lords), and to the Syriac word ܪܒܝ rabi.

The Woe on Unrepentant Capernaum explained by the memory of the martyrdom of Jesus in Capernaum

Matthew 11:20-24: 20 Then Jesus began to denounce the towns in which most of his miracles had been performed, because they did not repent. 21 “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented lo...

The refusal of a sign as a Judaizing passage found in *Ev

When the crowd gathered with him, he began to speak, "This generation is an evil generation. It demands a sign, but a sign will be given to it". (*Ev 11:29) Why is it a judaizing passage? Because the Temptation Story makes it clear that Jesus has to give no sign at all (apart the resurrec...

Re: What is the evidence that the Simonians used Mark and not *Ev?

I see that you have already answered here to my question, by claiming that the Basilidean proto-Mark didn't know the pauline/cerdonite epistles: Did Basilides know of Cerdo’s work on the Pauline letters? Not necessarily . The overlap may just be due to common material and family resemblance. Both Ba...
