Re: Distinguishing some questions about the "Letter to Theodore"

Apparently he might like my movie script 2.0. My friend Harry loves it. Maybe he can help me develop some of the stories at Mar Saba and the Patriarchate with better source material like Seraphim's diary. We will see. In the process of translating the whole screenplay into Greek (Tselikas speaks flu...

No apparatus. For the translation yes. For forgery arguments no.

Re: Distinguishing some questions about the "Letter to Theodore"

Another example. The most creative person isn't going to be the person you want doing your taxes.

There are times you'd like to know someone in the mafia.

You don't want to go on vacation with a miser.

Good parents should be attentive but not too attentive.

Re: Distinguishing some questions about the "Letter to Theodore"

Analogies. Michelangelo has to be the best housepainter. Bach would be a prolific composer of commercial jingles. The restaurant of the chef that wins the TV show Chopped will have the best food. A prostitute would make a great wife. Someone that has good taste in clothes will be a good home decorat...

Re: Distinguishing some questions about the "Letter to Theodore"

Why is the Tselikas the best paleographer? He's seen the most manuscripts. Does seeing the most manuscripts necessarily lead to the ability to identify forgeries? Not so sure we're all robots and we just need to download data and then the truth comes out. Not sure what would make a forgery detector....

Re: Distinguishing some questions about the "Letter to Theodore"

No I'm saying

1. Paleography is primarily a descriptive enterprise
2. Do the same characteristics which lead to excellent descriptive ability also lead one to be more right than wrong with regards to forgery identification

Re: Distinguishing some questions about the "Letter to Theodore"

Is the best driver also necessarily the safest driver? Is best driver the most skilled at turning? Is the best driver the driver who excels at the most skills or is there one skill which overrides all others to define the best driver or paleographer.

Re: Distinguishing some questions about the "Letter to Theodore"

I'm trying to wrap my head around a parallel example. What are the limits of paleography? Most of the paleographers I consulted said the text was authentic. Tselikas said it wasn't. He's the best paleographer. Does that make him the best forgery detector? I don't know.
