Re: Greek Monks Who Thought the Letter to Theodore was in the Mar Saba Monastery Before Morton Smith Arrives
I have written before that it may be worth considering that Smith wrote "the secret Gospel of Mark,"
in part, for Scholem.
Smith presented Jesus as a parallel to Sabbatai Zevi.
Scholem was not impressed by that analogy, though.

Re: Greek Monks Who Thought the Letter to Theodore was in the Mar Saba Monastery Before Morton Smith Arrives
According to Smith, he told Scholem about "the secret Gospel of Mark" before he left Israel in 1958. That may be significant for more than one reason: a) Smith already knew then about "the secret Gospel of Mark" claim. b) Scholem is the first person Smith tells us he told about &...

Smith's writing, in this case, is clear. Smith told Scholem about "the secret Gospel of Mark."

Smith by writing "nobody" includes everybody. For example, Seraphim.
Smith wrote that he told Scholem about "it." The antecedent of "it" is "the Secret Gospel of Mark."

Re: Greek Monks Who Thought the Letter to Theodore was in the Mar Saba Monastery Before Morton Smith Arrives
Morton Smith:
"....The thing just couldn't be true; it was too important! Why had nobody else ever mentioned the secret Gospel of Mark, if there was one? And why did it have to be my luck to walk into this trap? I couldn't suppress it; I'd already told Scholem...."

OK, though elsewhere you have said you prefer to avoid hypotheticals.
That there is a yet-unknown such reference is a hypothetical.
To be fair.

Re: Comments on Handwriting Analysis and the Mar Saba Letter
It remains fact that putative "Secret Mark" surprised. And that the best paleographer should not be dismissed. Aside, if I am allowed the following, for which I could provide details. Many have heard the phrase, three kinds of lies, "lies, damned lies, and statistics." That follo...

Without, for the moment, going into the, sometimes, rabbit-hole of Marcion debate,
I merely request that self-described engineer and content provider JarekS
stop asserting what others may or may not know.

Re: Greek Monks Who Thought the Letter to Theodore was in the Mar Saba Monastery Before Morton Smith Arrives
You again miss the point. You brought up Isidore of Pelusium. I said manuscripts, not books--did you read it? So, are you now suggesting that Smith went to Mar Saba to find an unknown BOOK edition of Isidore of Pelusium? Again, Smith was not a bibliographer for such supposed silly task. Or is this j...
