Re: Atheist history

Note to the readers. I did not create this thread. It was removed (rightly so) from another thread and placed here without my permission or notification.

I will not respond to questions on this thread, even if they are honest questions and/or comments regarding the murderous history of atheism.

Re: Richard Carrier's decisive point on Justin's Trypho

Ok! He's gone! We can get back to our nefarious machinations to subvert and overthrow Christianity! Muhaha muhaha muuuhahahaha.... I will make this exception for you. Why is it then that atheists (if there is such a thing) don't use the scientific method to prove atheism but rather to mock/degrade ...

Atheist history

You may not like it, but in this round full points go to Carrier Yes, much like the atheist Russian judges scoring Olympic boxing. If we don't challenge/discipline childish obstinacy, we have no right to complain when they grow up and become a tyrant and send us to the gulag. I'm just saying the qu...

Re: Richard Carrier's decisive point on Justin's Trypho

For those interested in the real MS: http://www.bl.uk/manuscripts/Viewer.aspx?ref=add_ms_82951_f061v Trypho is neatly indicated in the margins, chapter 32 starts right there, with Diplomatic stating: Καὶ ὁ Τρύ φων παυσαμένου μου εἶπεν· Ὦ ἄνθρωπε, αὗται ἡμᾶς αἱ γρα φαὶ καὶ τοιαῦται ἔνδοξον καὶ μέγαν...

Re: Richard Carrier's decisive point on Justin's Trypho

I can find a couple places where Trypho qualifies his statements in a skeptical way, to the point where it's a credible view that he's not really bought into the story of Jesus at all. I can't find anything so specific as "arguing that Justin can't prove that Jesus did exist." No, I don't...

Re: E. Tov and "The Evolution of the Biblical Dead Sea Scrolls"

There is no evolution discussed in the article, that is, who were the Essenes and why did they write the scrolls? Instead, it is about her role in translating the scrolls. Commendable work nonetheless but this has little or nothing to do with the why of it all. Noting new here. Nothing interesting.

Re: Richard Carrier's decisive point on Justin's Trypho

As far as fact checking Carrier's translation of Greek, I'm not going to waste my time but trust Roberts-Donaldson translation as provided by: Early Christian Writings. You'd have to fact check my translation of the Greek because I was the one who supplied it, not Carrier. I don't blindly trust the...

Re: Richard Carrier's decisive point on Justin's Trypho

Perhaps a quick review of history for those not familiar with the subject is in order. Justin Martyr (d. 165 CE) was a philosopher before he became a Christian. His understanding of the logos and its purpose, as explained in Plato's dialogue Timaeus made him think that even Socrates should be consid...

Re: Richard Carrier's decisive point on Justin's Trypho

It is important to note that Trypho is not being made to deny Jesus existed. He is not arguing that Jesus didn’t exist. Rather, he is arguing that Justin can’t prove he did exist—and thus did or said any of the things Christians claim. Not being able to tell the difference between those two argumen...
