Re: Was James the 'brother of the Demiurge'?

So, to say that Jesus is ''from Nazareth'', is an explicit confession that Jesus came from the Gnostic sect of the Nazarenes, who rejected the entire OT and hated the same creator, the god of the Jews. I'm confused. I thought the atheist/mythicist viewpoint was the town Nazareth did not e...

Re: Epiphanius gives evidence that James could't be the carnal brother of Jesus

What exactly "the sons of Rechab, the son of the Rechabites" means is anyone's guess. It seems unnecessary repetition. It is important to note that the actual name of the priest is not mentioned. Could this be Simeon and could it point to the 'brotherhood' as being something other than a connection...

Re: Epiphanius gives evidence that James could't be the carnal brother of Jesus

there is no clue that Epiphanius was polemizing against proponents of a carnal brotherhood for James. Only you are "reading" it in Epiphanius. He says simply that James "the son of Joseph" was of advanced age already when Jesus was born. In this point he doesn't say that Joseph was already a very o...

Re: Epiphanius gives evidence that James could't be the carnal brother of Jesus

Parts of the Panarion of Epiphanius can be read here . I can't find any complete English translation of that part of the work. The author (writing in the Fourth Century CE) states that Joseph married Mary when Joseph was 80 years old, and so never had sexual relations with her. James was his son vi...

Re: Epiphanius gives evidence that James could't be the carnal brother of Jesus

But James, the brother of the Lord and son of Joseph, died in Jerusalem, having lived 24 years, more or less, after the Savior's Ascension. He was 96 years old when he was struck on the head by a fuller with his club, flung from the pinnacle of the Temple and cast down... Haeres, 78, 14 So accordin...

What was "revealed in these last times"? The death and resurrection that happened before the creation of the world.
The plan for a redeemer was made before the foundation of the world but was not put into action/revealed until the resurrection of Christ.

Re: Who is who on the forum

Do you believe there was a historical Jesus and what religion did Christianity derive from? I am Gnostic Christian and think Christianity came out of Chrestianity, which then changed our name to Gnostic Christians after much of our literature was plagiarized by Christianity. Do you think Jesus was ...

Re: Josephus on James the Just?

Of course we don't want to point out that Joseph most likely had written two versions of his famous works. One for the Roman Flavian dynasty and one for the Jewish scholars.

Origen did not interpolate, instead he cited the secret version that was used among the surviving Jewish scholars.

Re: Jörg Rüpke on early Christianity in 'Pantheon: A New History of Roman Religion'

I guess we'll need to discuss what Rüpke says about the development of Christianity directly. Perhaps you are confusing Rupke's "textual communities" with textual criticism. Furthermore, in the section you provided, Rupke is not talking about the development of Christianity from Roman paganism but ...
