Re: 'The Letters of Paul in their Roman Literary Context: Reassessing Apostolic Authorship'

I think some of these scholars take skepticism too far. If they were mid 2nd century Paul would know gospels. There's a very long list of ignorance of Paul - Nazaraeth, Virgin birth, Pilate, earthly miracle working Jesus, sermon on the Mount, lords prayer etc. Reading Paul's letters esp Galatians pl...

Re: Were Marcionites keepers of the original Christian faith?

Hi there, hope all's well. My take is as follows: "Were the Marcionites the keepers of the original Christian faith?" No I think they were later on the scene. Still early, but not the earliest. They wrote the first "Luke". "(1) Was their faith represented by the original Pau...

Re: What is the final legacy of Marcion at the end?

... the fact that even Matkan prioritists place now Mark in the 100/110 CE. They have given up to place Mark shortly after the 70 CE. Not me :D Mark 9:1 and Mark chapter 13 reflect the expectation of the Second Coming during the lifetimes of those then present . The end times were imminent, about t...

Re: A figure falling dead from the sky in Revelation 1:7 implies a crucifixion in outer space

Hi Giuseppe,

I think the celestial crucifixion is supported by Rev 12. That Jesus is born in heaven and has a heavenly life. No hint of an earthly Jesus of Nazareth. The lamb who was slain is taken from Isaiah 52/53. The writer has no knowledge of any gospels.

Re: On the John the Baptist's importance to fix the god Jesus in real History

Hi there, this passage in John 1 is simply the author rewriting the earlier gospels so that John is *not* baptising Jesus. How can the sinless Jesus be baptised to wash away his sins? That's why the gospel writer is changing the story. He's making JC more godlike and less human. Also there's no birt...

Homepage ideas/suggestions

Hi Peter/All Hope don't mind the suggestions but thinking today with the latest scholarship on Marcion (discussed on this forum at great length!), you may wish to update the front page to reflect recent developments. These are my own ideas just to share, but it's your site, so I'm sure you'll do as ...

Re: The Death of Christianity, Atheism and New False Gods

That article is silly and a misrepresentation of what he said. I've listened to some of the interview on LBC. Rachel Johnson and Richard Dawkins are both treading on eggshells not wanting to criticise Islam. Simple fact is in Western Europe Christianity is finished and will be dead in a few decades....

Re: Letters as a unique Christian genre

Pauls "7 authentic" are (to my reading) real letters. He introduces himself, says his sources, ends with greetings, writes passionate arguments. Most of rest of NT is either anonymous or written in someone else's name to add more weight. I think they were definitely written to be read out ...

Logical errors in Christ Myth Theory

Been reading Jesus from Outer Space. Great read but thinking there's some logical errors. Im not an academic so please correct me if wrong The myth theory has Peter having a hallucination then bunch of others, and the invention of Jesus much later, pushed into late 1st C or early 2nd C. But Dr Richa...

Re: How the Gospels got their attributions...

I'm going to be radical here, and says it's possible Mk, Mt, Lk were the authors of the original gospels bearing their name. Or rather they may have been earlier versions of which they were authors. Irenaeus has no reason to make up Mark and Luke as authors. Cause they weren't disciples. Arguably th...
