Re: Excerpts from Volkmar, 'The Religion of Jesus,' 1857

I wrote that the *characters* of Jesus and Paul in the letter and in acts were Jewish. I agree. But note what I said: Both Jesus and Paul were Jews I'd say that they have overwhelming been portrayed as Jews. But Paul was doing something contrary to standard Second Temple Jewish practice , especiall...

Re: γυμνὸς or γυμνοὶ in Clement's Letter to Theodore?

The image shown above (seen on the right below) looks less crazy when it isn't blown up so much & the pixels can blend. Previously: "The low-res image is *really* low res. You can see the giant pixels." Giant pixels are not so great. I don't get your point here, can you rephrase? I ha...

Re: Excerpts from Volkmar, 'The Religion of Jesus,' 1857

*sigh* Maybe just search a bit in somebody’s postings so you can get a feeling for what they do and do. It know about what everybody has to say about something? Even better, read what they wrote, and respond to what they actually wrote. In the instant case, I wrote that the *characters* of Jesus and...

Re: γυμνὸς or γυμνοὶ in Clement's Letter to Theodore?

The stuff about blue pixels is taking the thread off track for no good reason. Well, the question of whether this is an - ai or a -ας is off track, and the purported ambiguity here is certainly not as convincing to me as some other ambiguities are. Since that is not the question which we are trying...

Re: Excerpts from Volkmar, 'The Religion of Jesus,' 1857

I'd say that they have overwhelming been portrayed as Jews. Portrayed? This is starting to remind me of the comedy sketch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=APMu32sC2nM . Paul *self describes* as a Jew in Philipians, and we know it wasn't a geographic or cultural identity either, because he further st...

Re: γυμνὸς or γυμνοὶ in Clement's Letter to Theodore?

If there's something specific you're seeing here, you haven't explained. Hmmm...I've got to get better at remembering not to forget to put down what I'm thinking.... Well, as I understand it, the ambiguity is in determining whether the word ends in -αι or in -ας. The leftmost picture turns all of t...

Re: Excerpts from Volkmar, 'The Religion of Jesus,' 1857

Both Jesus and Paul were Jews. I'm with Jason BeDuhn on this one....neither Jesus nor Paul was inventing a new religion, because the very concept of a religion--as being a system of worship and morality which is distinct from your ethnicity--wasn't invented until Mani. Here's a video of him elaborat...

Re: The refusal of a sign as a Judaizing passage found in *Ev

I'm kinda mystified here at what you are trying to prove, and how you are trying to prove it.....I mean, I actually believe in Ev priority over Luke, but don't find these little snippets very convincing ;-) :-( Why not? Well, say its even true that asking for the sign was a very Jewish thang.....was...

even in that case, *Ev was condemned to destruction because its only sin was the association with the marcionite interpretation . [/quote] Weeellll.....that and the Marcionites discouraged making lots of marcionite babies. Same fate of an ancient indoeuropean solar symbol. *chukle* how much better ...
