Re: The Temptation Story in Mark is anti-marcionite

Marcion interpreted this verse to mean docetism : Jesus only appeared to be in the sinful flesh. No need of a Temptation Story because the divine Jesus was immunized a priori to it. Re: The Antitheses and the origin of Luke

It's one thing for Marcion to say 'this was the original, that was an interpolation' when he does not know. It's another thing if Marcion originated the gospel text and wanted it to be accepted. In that case, transparency is unexpected. IMHO Marcion explicitly presented his Gospel text as a critica...

The comment "And we can only answer this question by appealing to polemical concerns" is not well argued.

Re: The Temptation Story in Mark is anti-marcionite

Hebrews is working out a concept of a perfect sacrifice, in order to provide an explanation of how Jesus replaced once and for all the use of sacrifices.

None of the claims in this thread were well argued.

Re: Origen's interesting ideas

Origen was just talking about some who would object to explaining the secret and mystical things in the Gospel. in context: discussing The Parable of the Unforgiving Servant in Matthew 18 Immediately begins explaining a point here about the parable of the talents in Matthew // Luke, saying: "th...

Re: Origen's interesting ideas

According to Heine's translation: "But someone will object that we act impiously when, because of the secret and mystical nature of some texts, we wish these to be indicative of the above writings and attempt to clarify them, even if it appears in theory that we know their intention precisely.&...
