Re: Political allegory in the 'exoteric' legend of Jesus
Political allegory in the 'exoteric' legend of Jesus Here's what Carotta says about this: http://www.carotta.de/subseite/texte/esumma.html The political changes which occurred with Vespasian and Titus after the Jewish war, such as the necessity of integrating Jews into the empire, led to the develo...

John 19:15 "no king but Caesar"
Caesar is indeed said to have said he's not king but Caesar. How would you check whether this parallel is valid? Re: Richard Carrier on gMark parallel with Jesus ben Ananias
The Hasmonean elements came via Josephus. What you see by the time of the Flavians is already a composite character, but it doesn't mean he was always a composite. This is not true. The Hasmoneans existed , seen today by way of coins, other records in other cultures, etc. "Existence" is n...

Re: Political allegory in the 'exoteric' legend of Jesus
The gospel JC story is not history; it is a mythologizing of history; an interpretation of history; salvation history. History viewed through a Jewish philosophical and a prophetic lens. -------------------------------------- While a lot of what Josephus wrote re Antigonus cannot be historically ve...

Re: Richard Carrier on gMark parallel with Jesus ben Ananias
2. We look back and try to find explanations. I'll cut to the chase: I find one basic appearance of Julius Caesar in the NT. JC gave Aristobulus 2 a coupla' Legions to go back into Syria and Kick Ass. I see the "Two Witnesses" in mid-Revelation as Aristobulus 2 and his son Alexander. *Koo...

Re: Greek "nomina sacra" - encryption of the sacred names
I don't know at the moment. Nobody knows where these codifications originated, but they appear with the earliest evidence. Do we have any artfacts - coins, inscriptions, etc - where the IS refers to Julius Caesar? Not that I'm aware of, but the initial and final letters are the same, and they're bo...

Please care to explain where the nomen sacrum IS comes from? Thanks.Stephan Huller wrote:Yeah like this nonsense is just too 'high brow' for the rest of us. We're all too stupid to see this as anything other than stupid.

Re: Richard Carrier on gMark parallel with Jesus ben Ananias
I see here's a reconstructed gospel with less OT references. It's still set in Galilee, and you might argue the reconstruction is wrong, but at least the idea of a gospel with less OT references is not just for nutjobs and conspiracists.
