Re: 'First Century Mark' Now Dated to Second/Third Centuries
I've wondered whether Obbink independently was trying, not to conclude a sale with the Greens and/or their representatives, but to arise as a white knight, broker a preliminary agreement, convince the Oxyrhynchus Society (or whatever entity is the legal owner of the fragment) that a sale at a huge p...

Re: 'First Century Mark' Now Dated to Second/Third Centuries
I just discovered this on Daniel Wallace's blog. Wallace is the guy who first made it public that there was a purported 1st century fragment of gMark. Now he gives more details about the NDA etc. https://danielbwallace.com/2018/06/11/first-century-mark-fragment-second-update/ Elijah Hixson is the gu...

Ancient forgeries - review
The reviewed volume may be interesting, although apparently it is sloppily edited. It includes chapters on Karen King's "Gospel of Jesus' Wife" (forgery); the Report of Pilate to Tiberius (forgery, as I gather); Morton Smith's Mar Saba fragment of Mark (authenticity defended by Scott Brown...

Re: Translations of Josephus
Many universities and some learned societies provide access to digitized volumes of the entire Loeb Classics series. You have to have access through the institution, though.

Not that I've heard of. Books written for specialists usually aren't, though sometimes they are.Blood wrote:Will there be an English translation?

According to the review, Becker takes a middle course between maximal and minimal acceptance of given passages in other writers as genuine...

review of John Granger Cook on Roman Crucifixion
In October 2015 I posted a note that John Granger Cook has a book out on crucifixion in the Roman world. Here is a review of that book in Bryn Mawr Classical Review. The reviewer is James H. Dee, Classics prof. emeritus of Loyola Univ., Chicago: http://www.bmcreview.org/2017/01/20170119.html The rev...

Re: Jesus in the Talmud
I finally did hear back from Jacob, and basically, he told me that I would not find any good information regarding what the Avodah Zerah says about Jesus in current Talmudic works. According to him, he studied at Cambridge and he was privy to some "uncorrupted"versions of this book that h...

lead tablets from Jordan - Jesus?
Hi guys, it's been at least a year since I've been on here. I hope all are doing well. spin, it's good to see you back in action. When I left, you had been absent for a long time. So, there's already a new Handbook to Josephus, with a chapter on the TF by Alice Wheatley. Anyway, has anyone weighed i...
