Re: Paul's use of or references to 'gospel'
Galatians 2:7 But contrariwise, when they saw that the gospel of the uncircumcision was committed unto me, as the gospel of the circumcision was unto Peter;

Re: Implications of Marcion for early Christianity?
Reading Marcion's, 'Jesus came down to Capernaum', as a literal, flesh and blood journey, sounds strange to the ear - i.e. we use that sort of expression often (i.e. my sister came down to London - from up north somewhere or another). Since Marcion's gospel found no use for birth narratives - perha...

I suspect that Josephus was implying that God was about to put His weight behind the Roman side, with Vespasian as God's new favorite.Joseph D. L. wrote: ↑Thu Apr 25, 2024 11:06 amMakes you wonder where God is going when he strolls on out of the Temple. Weird that Jesus ben Ananias appears, stage right and on his mark.

Re: Book 6.5.3 of Wars of the Jews.
Josephus also implies that God had removed Himself from the Temple. This is consistent with what he wrote about how God had abandoned Jerusalem and the Temple due to the actions of robbers and the High Priests: At the same festival also, a heifer, as she was led by the high priest to be sacrificed, ...

Re: The Temptation Story in Mark is anti-marcionite
Ebionism is a post-Marcion phenomenon... Yes, that's why I wrote "Ebion-like". I believe the Ebionites were the continuation of the beliefs of the original Christians, even if modified by time. This is because the letters that appear to either be written before the Gospels or were unaffec...

Re: The Temptation Story in Mark is anti-marcionite
The point is the same of Hebrews 4:15: Jesus is fully human, only remember that the his humanity was without sin. You don't need to explain that his humanity was without sin, unless you are addressing people who did n't accept a human Jesus, i.e. Marcionites . A 'Jesus without sin" is consiste...

An angel perhaps, given a promotion? I think Ehrman believes something along those lines, though I haven't looked into that.Peter Kirby wrote: ↑Mon Apr 15, 2024 10:39 pmI kinda don't get it. Hanging around at creation but not the Son?

Re: Is 'called Christ' in Ant 20:200 a Christian gloss just as 'born by woman' is a Catholic gloss in Gal 4:4?
Christ is a son via a woman, while Christians are sons via adoption: Also I am son of a woman If that were true, surely you would have given the name of the woman. Who uses "son of a woman" to describe someone? and baptized at the birth. If that were true, surely you would have supplied t...

Re: Is 'called Christ' in Ant 20:200 a Christian gloss just as 'born by woman' is a Catholic gloss in Gal 4:4?
Afterall, just as 'called Christ' breaks the context (the brother of Jesus ben Damneus being the victim of Ananus), a similar breaking of the context is in action in Galatians 4:4: the argument is the Son being sent by god in the predicted time, and the 'birth from woman' is not a detail of interes...
