Re: Jesus' home in Capernaum?

perhaps it was Marcion himself that dropped Bethsaida from the Evangelion i.e. Ephraim had a copy of the Evangelion prior to Marcion dropping Bethsaida from his copy of this early gospel. Sure, or somebody dropped Nazareth from the Evangelion as part of an evolving theology which was trying to dist...

Re: Jesus' home in Capernaum?

If the Evangelion originally had Bethsaida instead of Nazara.... when was the change made... If I had to guess (and, lets face it, I do) I would think it would be when Matthew was written, in order to give Jesus another fulfilled prophecy (that he would be a Nazar-ene/ite) and was later harmonized....

Re: Jesus' home in Capernaum?

Klinghardt, Matthias. The Oldest Gospel: A Missing Link in New Testament Scholarship, Kindle Edition I noticed something when reading a footnote of Couchcloud--he says that in Ephram's copy of the Evangelion has "Bethsaida" here instead of Nazara or Nazareth. Curiouser and curiouser. Here...

Re: Carrier - Goodacre conversation on the historicity of Jesus

At the end of the day - however well any Doherty/Carrier mythicists try and interpret the NT story they are left with this problem.... Comment on Mark Goodacre' blog Mike Gantt said... gurugeorge, I have invited Earl Doherty and others to explain just what mythicists believe actually happened. None ...

Re: Jesus' home in Capernaum?

Interesting. I've no Greek so can't debate the language issues. Hope Mark Bilby pays the forum a visit. How's your Latin skills? :-) The reconstructors are trying to figure out what the greek words are from the Lagin screeds :-) I wouldn't find it hard to believe that it was originally "Nazara...

Re: Jesus' home in Capernaum?

Klinghardt, Matthias. The Oldest Gospel: A Missing Link in New Testament Scholarship, Kindle Edition. Looks like Jason BeDuhn also has "Nazara". Things that make you go "hmmm....." Perhaps Ben Smith can opine here? Or vocasante, if you've got the big ears on? 04","16&q...

Re: Jesus' home in Capernaum?

[ Nazara entered the Jesus tradition before Nazareth did. FWIW Marcion's Evangelion (which is our earliest witness to the text of Luke) has "Nazareth", not "Nazara". Tertullian doesn't note a difference in place name with his copy of Luke. Matthias Klinghardt, in The Oldest Gosp...

Re: Carrier - Goodacre conversation on the historicity of Jesus

My popular market summary of my academic study of Jesus, Jesus from Outer Space, is now available in Greek and Polish translations. Follow the links for details and to buy one. These are not available in the Amer...

Re: John of Gischala "was scandalized" at the news about Josephus and Jesus ben Sapphat

And Josephus - based on ?. OK, I'll take a guess - pure speculation of course - Agrippa II. How do you do it, maryhelena? Secret Alias wrote a "...silly little book" [His words...] on A-II and HE didn't get it. Everyone, please look at "The Baptism of John" and "The Baptism...

Re: John of Gischala "was scandalized" at the news about Josephus and Jesus ben Sapphat

After three days they found him in the temple courts, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. Everyone who heard him was amazed at his understanding and his answers (Luke 2:46-47) ...was based on Josephus's Life 2: ...and I made mighty proficiency in the improvement...
