Re: Anachronisms in Genesis

Question for big-brained ancient language people: would i be right in assuming that the occurrences of aramaic discussed are present both in the Leningrad Codex and the Dead Sea Scrolls?

Re: My Faith as I am Coming to Learn It

I believe in the teachings of Christ not Christianity What did Christ teach? In Mark's gospel he teaches precious little, only crumbs about fasting, the sabbath, divorce and how to be a first-century follower. If the sermons in later gospels were authentic and important why aren't they mentioned in...

I went on a minibus tour of the West Bank in 2007 and the guide pointed out a likely location for Sodom. I regret that I didn't spend the night there.

Re: Matthew 16:28 a parousia prediction?

I think you're right and no one reading those lines would see anything else unless they had an ulterior motive. It seems that one of the themes of gJohn is that we shouldn't be on the look out for a second coming because Jesus ascended and returned shortly after his resurrection and then handed his ...

Is it true there are no direct equivalents to "yes" and "no" in latin? I heard you have to use cumbersome structures like "indeed that is correct, Lucretius" or some such.

The Enochic issue of sin is certainly after the Persian period, so the story of the fall drags Genesis with it.
Interpreting the Eden narrative in terms of sin and "fall" is a very Christian and stretched approach to the text.

Re: Genesis chap 5 verses 21-24, Enoch

I find the following interesting and I interpret it to mean that death isn't the only option, a person could just cease to exist. so Jesus dying wasn't the only option presented in the bible for existing with god if that is what verse 22 means. Didn't Elijah also by-pass death? Elijah seems to be a...

Deuteronomy 3:11 For only Og king of Bashan remained of the remnant of giants; behold his bedstead was a bedstead of iron; is it not in Rabbath of the children of Ammon? nine cubits was the length thereof, and four cubits the breadth of it, after the cubit of a man. = the first part of Og remaining...
