Re: The Space-Time Traveler Joshua as the more expected Gnostic reflection of the new Moses

Whaaa? Giuseppe, there is much in Christian fathers that comes from the Platonism of those times (.e., Middle Platonism). Plato had his own ideas about space & time. You might find something useful by investigating the matter. I recommend John Dillon's book, The Middle Platonists (1977). Sorry, no a...

Re: Was the Temple of Onias modeled after the Temple of Gerizim?

This is what Josephus relates regarding the Jewish temple in Egypt: So Ptolemy complied with his proposals, and gave him a place one hundred and eighty furlongs distant from Memphis. That Nomos was called the Nomos of Heliopolls, where Onias built a fortress and a temple, not like to that at Jerusa...

Re: The Jewish New Testament by David Stern

While reading up on the KJV only debate I came across this book reference and have found a site that hosts it https://kifa.kz/eng/bible/stern/ What are your thoughts on this translation (if any)? Λῆν There have been attempts to *translate* the Greek NT into Hebrew, but I do not know of any that tri...

Re: Jewish law and healing of the leper

immediately the leprosy left him and he was cleansed. [Mark 1:]43 Jesus sent him away at once with a strong warning: 44 “See that you don’t tell this to anyone. But go, show yourself to the priest and offer the sacrifices that Moses commanded for your cleansing, as a testimony to them.” 45 Instead ...

Re: Luke's date for the crucifixion

This thread is a response to interesting recent discussion's about Josephus Pilate Luke 3:1 ans other matters. However I am trying to answer a specific point. Can we determine when Luke understood the crucifixion to have occurred without relying on either our present text of 3:1 or our present text...

Re: The shortening of the days.

^Quick question, DC... Is the "Old Greek" in your table there what is generally considered synonymous with the LXX, or is this something else again? Technically, the term "Lxx" or "Seventy" (from legendary number of translators) should be restricted to the Pentateuch, as that is all that the "Seven...

Re: The shortening of the days.

Good points, David. I am not sure how it all fits together. It is still pretty confusing overall, as well, how different Theodotion and the LXX are when it comes to Daniel. Let's suppose that the Old Greek translation of Daniel preceded Theodotion's translation that Christians later came to prefer....

Re: Synoptic Luke-Marcion parallels?

Asking on behalf of a colleague: Does anyone know of any source that has Luke and Marcion fragments in parallel like they do the synoptic gospels? You mean like the way critics have presented reconstructions of Galatians, Romans, etc., in parallel columns? Now I thought I had something like that, b...
